In a Manner of Speaking

In a manner of speaking
I just want to say
That I could never forget the way
You told me everything
By saying nothing

In a manner of speaking
I don't understand
How love in silence becomes reprimand
But the way that i feel about you
Is beyond words

Oh give me the words
Give me the words
That tell me nothing
Ohohohoh give me the words
Give me the words
That tell me everything

In a manner of speaking
Semantics won't do
In this life that we live we only make do
And the way that we feel
Might have to be sacrified

So in a manner of speaking
I just want to say
That just like you I should find a way
To tell you everything
By saying nothing.

Oh give me the words
Give me the words
That tell me nothing
Ohohohoh give me the words
Give me the words
That tell me everything

Coinciding, my night ends with a story....

VOICE
-- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
It didnt matter that he couldnt see where he was going
he kept his gaze to his feet
being watchful for sudden puddles or debris of trash
left behind
he could feel the gentle nudge of the person behind him.
they kept on moving
it was pointless to determine where he should stand.
clamped in the crowd, he could only move
bit by bit
shouts break out from time to time
a cheer
a complain
some vulgarities that hurled across the room
it was supposed to be a joke.
and the other person laughed and volleyed back another set of vulgarities
still he moved on
he shifted his gaze up to the ceiling and watched the lights paint the dark
slices of green and magenta
a generous wash of orange dashes away a pitter patter of white dots
more cheering
surely it'll will start soon
but he knows that he wont be leaving till it ends
across the room , she watches him.
her friends are bringing drinks over
more than their hands could carry
she receives a glass with both hands
the chill from the glass wets her palms
she leans over for a drink
and in a quick moment of reflex
she tilts her head back up
a look of panic in her eye
she searches the dancefloor again, looking out for him
she has lost him in the crowd
how untimely..she thought to herself
still she scans the crowd for that familiar profile
occasionaly she sets the glass to her lips and drinks slowly
never taking her eyes away from the blanket of people before her.
she feels compelled to leave her seat.
special seats they are
reserved only for top dollars
drink all you want
furthest from the exit
a strategic view above the rest
privacy without protection
she has lost him in the crowd.
and with that the will to carry on with the evening
He works his way to the front of the stage
setting his camera near the edge of the stage
he hoists himself up and remains, crouched.
from up here he sees everyone
he sees more
than just his feet or the colours on the ceiling
he keeps his mind clear
blocks out the sound.
the camera at his feet is the next living thing nearest to him
the screaming girl at the foot of the stage? fake.
the technician manning the console? fake
he removes everything one by one.
and then he tells himself that hes ready
everyone seems ready
the louder the music gets the quieter his mind.
already he's thinking of the cigarette which he will smoke before he sleeps.
When she saw him clamber onto the stage
she praised her good luck and decided soon enough that she wanted to be closer
she had almost give up all hope in catching a glimpse of him
but there he was, the only elevated person near the stage
he's crouched with his camera lens pointing to the ground.
he seems to be...sleeping
she kills her cigarette and snatched her purse off the table
its easier to walk around up here. top dollar, top seats
soon it gets trickier
coming into the crowd
nudging her way through
while keeping her focus on the crouched figure up on stage
the nearer she gets, the lousier the view. the stage seemed higher
she stopped
standing in between two men with familiar faces
far from her top dollar seat
far from her drink
far from comfort
but nearer to him
that was all she needed
to be nearer
she stared hard at him. he wasnt sleeping
his eyes were closed but they would open once in a while
it was as if it took him forever to make a single blink
he's thinking of the half-eaten dinner
left in the microwave
he's thinking of the battery life left in his camera
he's hoping that they will start soon
she wants him to look her way
there must be a way to get his attention
the easiest seemed like the least charming way
sure, she could have called him
on her cellphone
but that would have been less 'memorable'. she was game for something else
the music rushes by faster and louder
the impatience builds
the crowd yells as shadows are seen forming in the dark where the stage ends
an announcer welcomes the band
soon everyone hears everyone
a cacaphony of applause and chant
he stares at the band
she breaks her gaze away from him and looks at the band
he raises his camera
to his eyes and turn towards the audience.
pictures of the crowd cheering..get pictures of the crowd cheering
one, two , three......fourfivesix
six quick frames
he lowers the camera
sweeps the crowd
with his eyes
he sees her
and wonders if she has seen him
shes smiling
someone is staring at her and she knows it
she shouts for her favourite band
she claps with her hands above her head
and she saw him
and as the music kickstarted with a roar of jubilation from the crowd,
they had their first conversation
without hearing each other's voice.
